POETS

Poems are a dime a dozen
that’s less than a penny for one

and poets don't even get paid
they do what they do for fun

you wouldn't catch me in front of a crowd
going on and on in verse

unless maybe I just heard one
and knew I couldn't do worse

even then I'd have to have a cause
Political, Religious, or Earth

or maybe my new grand son
who just experienced birth

no, you wouldn't catch me going on and on
in front of a great big crowd

but if you did you can rest assured
I wouldn't be long or loud
